Worship & Prayer- Weapons in our fight

9/29/2024

Pastor Dwayne Trelenberg highlighted the roles of worship and prayer as weapons in the fight in the spiritual domain.
Genesis 12:8
From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.
Genesis 13:3-4|NIV
3 From the Negev he went from place to place until he came to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier
4 and where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the LORD.
Daniel 10:12-13|NIV
12 Then he continued, "Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.
13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.
Ephesians 6:12|NIV
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Psalms 51:11|NIV
11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
John 14:16|NIV
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-
Genesis 1:26|NIV
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
Proverbs 18:21|NIV
21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
1 Corinthians 15:45|NIV
45 So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a lifegiving spirit.
Isaiah 9:6|NIV
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Why do we pray?

9/22/2024

Still on the theme of "Why do we do what we do?" and preparing for a week of prayer and fasting, how does the idea of "pray without ceasing" become part of what we do?
Ferdi also introduced the concept of "sandwich" prayer where joy and thanksgiving form part of your conversation with God.
Revival (personal or corporate) shows us the importance and role of prayer.

Philippians 4:4,6
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18|NIV
16 Be joyful always;
17 pray continually;
18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:17
Pray without ceasing [KJV]
Pray continually [NIV]
Never stop praying [NLT]
Ephesians 6:18|NIV
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
1 Corinthians 14:18-19|NIV
18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.
19 But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words...
1 Corinthians 14:14-15|NIV
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
15 So what shall I do?
I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind;
I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
Romans 8:26|NIV
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
Luke 11:13|NIV If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Why do we rejoice?

Why do we rejoice? The Bible tells us to take up our cross.
Mike talked about self-denial and the joy of the Lord.
Enjoy this message, but more so, do everything God asks including the joy part.
The song at the end is "House Of The Lord" by Phil Wickham.
Philippians 4:4|NLT 1996 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again — rejoice!
Matthew 10:38|NLT 1996
38 If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.
Matthew 16:24-26|NLT 1996
24 Then Jesus said to the disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow me.
25 If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life.
26 And how do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul in the process? Is anything worth more than your soul?
John 14:6-7|NLT 1996
6 Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
7 If you had known who I am, then you would have known who my Father is. From now on you know him and have seen him!"
Matthew 11:28-30|NLT 1996
28 Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light."
John 12:49|NLT 1996 49 I don't speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me gave me his own instructions as to what I should say.
Psalms 16:11|NLT 1996 11 You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.
Hebrews 12:2|NLT 1996
2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterward. Now he is seated in the place of highest honor beside God's throne in heaven.
Hebrews 1:9|NLT 1996
9 You love what is right and hate what is wrong. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else."
Psalms 45:7|NLT 1996
7 You love what is right and hate what is wrong. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.
John 15:11|NLT 1996
11 I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!
John 16:24|NLT 1996
24 You haven't done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.
1 Peter 1:8-9|NLT 1996
8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him, you trust him; and even now you are happy with a glorious, inexpressible joy.
9 Your reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.
Nehemiah 8:10|NLT 1996
10 And Nehemiah continued, "Go and celebrate with a feast of choice foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!"

Worship lifestyle and idolatry

What is idolatry in our modern lifestyles?
When would action, passion, participation, devotion in a certain protocol, willing committing to lifestyle result in worship?
Psalms 135:15-18
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by the hands of men.
16 They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see;
17 they have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.
Jeremiah 2:5|NIV This is what the LORD says: "What fault did your fathers find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.
Jeremiah 2:13-15|NIV
13 "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
14 Is Israel a servant, a slave by birth? Why then has he become plunder?
15 Lions have roared; they have growled at him. They have laid waste his land; his towns are burned and deserted.
Colossians 3:10|NLT
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.

Psalms 135:19-21|NIV
19 O house of Israel, praise the LORD; O house of Aaron, praise the LORD;
20 O house of Levi, praise the LORD; you who fear him, praise the LORD.
21 Praise be to the LORD from Zion, to him who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise the LORD.
2 Corinthians 3:18|NIV
18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
John 4:1-24
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Worship and restoration

Worship in the presence of God even after we have failed to listen, can be a part of powerful restoration.
The song we listened to at the end was "Praise Ye The Lord" by Randall Wallace https://youtu.be/kPrEbkCpcbY
1 Samuel 6:19-20
19 But God struck down some of the men of Beth Shemesh, putting seventy of them to death because they had looked into the ark of the LORD. The people mourned because of the heavy blow the LORD had dealt them,
20 and the men of Beth Shemesh asked, "Who can stand in the presence of the LORD, this holy God? To whom will the ark go up from here?"
1 Chronicles 16:1|NIV
They brought the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they presented burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before God.
Exodus 29:42-43|NIV
42 "For the generations to come this burnt offering is to be made regularly at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD. There I will meet you and speak to you;
43 there also I will meet with the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory.
Psalms 141:2|NIV May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

Picture
1 Chronicles 23:30|NIV They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD. They were to do the same in the evening
Hebrews 13:15|NIV Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise — the fruit of lips that confess his name.
Acts 15:16-17|NIV
16 'After this I will return and rebuild David's fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it,
17 that the remnant of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who bear my name, says the Lord, who does these things'
Amos 9:11|NIV "In that day I will restore David's fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruins, and build it as it used to be,
